The Great Flying Anvil Migration

Let the great Flying Anvil migration commence...

Highway 1 To Big Sur And Beyond

100's of miles up Highway 1 on vintage bikes
The road is never straight for very long
Decided to go old school and take the road that was used before the famous Bixby Bridge was completed in 1932
Which allowed the ranch to open in 1934
The locals came over to see what was going on
12 miles later we reached the bridge just in time to re-tighten every nut and bolt
Kept one eye on the road and one on the sun setting on the Pacific
A campfire, Irish Whiskey and let the shenanigans begin

The Talented Mr. Carrigg

5'8" Mini Zimmonz
9'3" IsIs
We just picked up a few new sleds from our good friend, ultra-talented and all-around good guy Mr. Zephaniah Carrigg. If you have never had the pleasure of riding one of his carefully hand-crafted slabs of foam...we highly recommend it. Not just skilled with a planer, Zeph has all kinds a tricks up his sleeve when it comes to his pigment laminating. His boards look as amazing as they surf. We can't wait to paddle out on these finely crafted wave riders. Check out more of his work at Boarddesign by Zephaniah Carrigg

Zeph you're a gentleman and a scholar...Thanks again!

It's Better In The Wind - Scott G. Toepfer

Few people have been able to capture the essence of what we're all about in still images like the super talented Scott Toepfer. We are very lucky to know and work with someone as creative and gifted as Mr. Toepfer. Scott has a keen eye and plays a large part in helping to share our vision with others. Check out his personal labor of love here. He nails it every time.

BEHIND THE LENS with Dan Merkel

BEHIND THE LENS with Dan Merkel from Corduroy Films on Vimeo.

Dan Merkel is one of the most legendary surf photographers of all time. I had the pleasure of getting to know Dan when he was my neighbor in La Conchita, some years ago. We met under dramatic circumstances, as he rescued my sailboat off the rocks out at Santa Cruz Island in a particularly wicked winter Santa Ana. He was (and still is) one of my all time photographer-heros. This is a cool little video about Dan. Enjoy.

It's Better In The Wind - Scott G. Toepfer

It's Better In The Wind - Short Film from Scott Toepfer on Vimeo.

We first met Scott Toepfer when looking for a photographer to help us capture the essence of what our little brand was about. To say he nailed it would be an understatement. In the process, Scott has become a good friend and we've watched from afar as he recorded epic journeys and adventures via motorcycle for his personal project, "It's Better In the Wind". This has been Scott's labor of love. His beautiful images capture everything we love about riding - the adventure, the open road and friendships made along the way. Congratulations my friend on the completion of an amazing journey. Watch this short film. I guarantee it will be the best part of your day.

The Ride Of Passage:Into the Great White North - Mike B. Matlock

Mike Matlock is a friend of ours from Santa Barbara...one part survivor man, one part moto gypsy, and all renaissance man. He armed himself with a motorcycle and a surfboard and headed out to find what his adventure had in store. Here's a few words from Mike and a few photos of his travels.

The Ride of Passage is a two wheeled adventure paying dues to the elements and earning your experience. To create a harmonious connection between man, machine and the environment in search of natural beauty and waves.

This is my attempt to break the patterns of my life that I have seemed to become reliant on. I wanted to get far away from comforts and the feeling of being comfortable. I want to be completely exposed to the elements and humbled, in order to gain a deeper understanding and respect through interacting with my environments. I want to throw my iphone and computer in the opposite direction I am traveling. No more searching the internet for answers its time for me to find them on my own.

The plan was to ride solo along HW 1 from California to Canada surfing and camping. No where to hide and a long lonely coastal highway to run. I prepped the bike into the ultimate surf seeking machine. I custom fabricated a 13 gauge stainless steel surfboard rack capable of holding two surfboards. 2 aluminum, lockable and watertight side pannier boxes filled with camping gear and tools. 1 mounted and lockable pelican case filled with food and 1 large dry bag filled with 5 mm neoprene wetsuit, booties, gloves and hood strapped to the seat doubling as a back rest.

The time of year is fall with rain and more rain in the forecast. Armed with a basic road map and passion for adventure I pinned the throttle North. I have never ridden in the rain and haven't rode more than 2 hours straight at a time. The added variable of aerodynamics with a surfboard at hi speeds and cross winds is um interesting to say the very least. I figure by the time I realize what I got myself into it will be too late to turn around.

If your not enjoying the ride its time to take a turn and get lost...

Mike sent us a few tracks that kept him amped along the way. Have a listen.

Fall In California

Fall is hands down the best time of year in California. The tourists have gone home and the beaches are left to the surfers and vagabonds. Not sure which category we fall into, but most likely a little of both. We decided to take a little road trip up the coast to enjoy the bounty of some of what california has to offer this time of year - empty beaches and deserted back country roads. Our good friend Scott Toepfer joined us and recorded some highlights for posterity. Here's a little video he shot and edited for us. Enjoy.

Ride To Nowhere

Decided it was time to pack up and and leave civilization for a few days. With a full moon weekend and California "winter" weather in the forecast we couldn't have asked for better conditions. Gathered a few good friends, strapped what camp gear we could to our bikes and headed out. Where were we going...nowhere. We rode all day and ended up in the middle of nowhere.
Spent the morning heading north on Hwy 101...

After lunch we turned many clicks of the odometer (if you had one) through the twisties.

A stop at the top to take in the views.

Inspect the bikes before heading down the back and into the unpaved wilderness.

Getting onto the dirt and into the woods was a breathe of fresh air.

Well...maybe not for those of us at the back of the pack

Miles of dirt adhering itself to the trusty steeds.

Time for a bath...the water was quite a bit deeper than it looked.

Rewards for a long day in the saddle.

Oak moon showing itself.

Gathered the wood along the roadside...lifesaver.

Stories of the day and days past.

The later it got, the larger the flames.

Wake up with the animals.

Thawing the cowhide is a must before inserting the digits.

"Don't you have a choke?" "Nope...blocked it off.".

Back to civilization for warm grub and cool suds.

Refueled No. 08

It's title says, Style. Music. Adventure...but in our opinion it is really so much more. If you haven't had the pleasure of checking out Refueled mag yet, you're really missing out! From the moment our good buddy Scott Teopfer turned us onto to Refueled, it has captured our attention. Speaking of Mr. Toepfer, he has contributed an amazing article to this issue, with his words and images starting on page 64. We have a great admiration for what the Publisher Chris Brown has crafted with Refueld mag. Give it a look here. Below are a few images to pique your intrest.

El Guapo

Often times the motorcycles we obsess over live loudly and impossibly in our heads. But every once in a while, it manifests, or rather it comes within reach...and we can't help ourselves.

Such is the case with 'El Guapo, a hardtail 1956 Triumph T110 pre unit. Matching numbers, perfect lines, simple colors, and a motor you would eat off of if your girl wouldn't disown you for doing so. A long time Southern California machine, the motorcycle traveled through many hands, most notably George Omo and Tom Robinson, who began and finished the project, respectively, at different stages of its history.

Reading the history of this motorcycle is an experience. Found as a matching frame and motor in a deceased collectors fleet, including a NOS bare cylinder head, magneto, slick shift gear box, and rust free Wassel tank. Add some re-chroming, finishing pin stripes, an Avon front/Firestone rear, Bates original leather...and the perfect machine began to take shape.

Being completely built without being run has it's own caveats, and Tom Robinson of
BBC Triumph in Ventura, CA was the man to solve the mysteries. Fresh oil lines, clutch, fuel delivery, and tuning were put to rest by the salty Englishman, and now it's a one kick machine.

Even though it looks like a trailer queen, it's often a favorite for a morning hot lap, or a trip up the coast for some swell checking. First gear is a task that will throw you from seat to fender, and without hesitation it will be in 4th asking for salt. Sometimes our two wheeled wishes are answered, only to impress over and over again.

Enjoy a little eye candy, and enjoy a cruise upon visit! Here here for the next adventure!

Amazing Isn't Enough - Brandon McLean

Every once in a while we come across something pretty inspirational that merits exposure in the blogosphere. Be it motorcycles, surfing, music or art or anything having to do with to aforementioned. We recently had the pleasure of meeting visual artist, Brandon McLean, stumbling across a series of mixed media pieces he had recently completed featuring motorcycle race imagery from the '50s and '60s. When asked about the inspiration for this series, here's what Brandon had to say. "Most of the motorcycle pieces and other pieces have recently been inspired by the societal pressures of manhood. Living up to an ideal set by a man’s father, following in his boot prints, transforming from a boy to accepting the responsibilities of a man. Topics such as being good enough, trying to be the best, competing, succeeding, having the most, and providing."

Some of the pieces here are for sale (some have already been sold). Hit Brandon up directly via email if you'd like more information. brandon.thomas.mclean@gmail.com

Mother Nature Does Not Always Give A Shit

Mother Nature doesn't give a shit about what big plans we had. She forced us to cancel Round #1 of The Iron and Resin Hooligan Derby...but not all is lost. We are still going for a ride to the hills, soak away our sorrows and party at The Tavern afterwords. Watch our Facebook for time and meeting location. I am sure there are a few of you who are bummed they don't get to derby this weekend...but there is nobody more bummed than we are. Look on the bright side, it gives everyone a little more time to prepare their rides and watch YouTube videos for tricks of the trade. Make a note that the next race will be held May 12th! Little known fact...The Ventura Raceway lies below sea level and all surrounding liquids drain to the center of the track. ARGHHHHHH!

17th Annual Corsa Motoclassica presented by Garage Company

We made our up to Willow Springs raceway this weekend to enjoy some vintage AHRMA Motorcycle racing, vintage bike show and swap meet. Yoshi from the Garage Company has been putting on this event for 17 years now and it seems to be getting better and better every year. This year was definitley not an exception. The weather was perfect for racing and collection of people and vintage race bikes was the best we've seen in a long while. What made our trip even better was that our good friend and talented throttle turner Sean "Sparky" I'Anson demolished the field in the Sound of Singles race and nearly won the Battle of the Twins and took second on an SV that was not running well due to a bunk cam.
This was one of the best bikes at the track.

This one was a close second. Another BSA, but from a biased point of view.

This is "NOT-A-BSA...

And neither was this.

Let's play the find the BSA logo game.

Chicken Hawk was my nickname given to me by my father after an "eagle" tattoo I got at 17.

I know monkeys are smart...but who knew you could get them to swing off the back off a motorcycle at over 140!

Mr. I'Anson literally laying it down against the competition.

4 laps in and the competition couldn't keep themselves in sight of him.

This is what a TZ250 looks like with a 660 5 valve single Raptor motor stuffed into it.

This is "Sparky" being an asshole after the race.

Iron And Resin Hooligan Derby - Sat. May 12th (Round 2)

Ok boys and girls. Round two of the Hooligan Derby is almost upon us (Saturday May 12th). The first round was rained out. However, this just gave everyone more time to get their Hooligan dialed in. This is a purely FUN amateur event, taking place in our home of Ventura, CA. Ventura Raceway, an oval track affectionately known as "the best little dirt track in America" is a perfect setting for some dirt slinging amongst like minded friends. Open to all comers, our hope is that this will encourage a new breed of rider/racer to come out and share in the festivities.

Pre mix, 4-stroke, Japanese, American, Brit... if you can kick it, you can race it.

Race or spectate. Don't miss this. It's sure to be fun. After party at The Tavern.

Registration forms for the May 12th race are now available on the Ventura Raceway page here. If you registered for the last (rained out) race, your registration will automatically roll over to this race. See you there! For more information please vist the raceway website or call the office at (805) 985-5433

This Saturday Night!

It looks like Saturday will be a night to remember in our sleepy coastal village! We've taken our leakers and non-runners and turned them into one-kick (or in Scott's case...12 kicks) racers for the weekend, hoping to square up against our friends both locally and from all around Southern California. In addition to the Iron & Resin family of riders, we are looking to host the boys from BA-Moto, Deus Ex Machina, and British Customs for a couple of heats of excitement at the track, and a few celebratory drinks afterwards at The Tavern. So tape up your headlight, tie your boots tight, scribble a number plate, and come ride where everybody is your pal, even if you win. It's not too late to enter, ride on over and sign up at the gate!

It's On!

In case you missed it...

...rowdy 2-strokes, ornate choppers, vintage helmets, and enough personality to keep the crowd cheering throughout the cool coastal night.

The Iron & Resin Hooligan Derby saw more than triple the amount of racers the track usually sees in the class, and I guarantee you that you won't see a '76 CB360 being chased down by a rigid shovelhead (and 16 other bikes for that matter) anywhere else. The pit area was the place to be between races, with members of BA-Moto, Hell for Leather, and of course the Iron & Resin family all heckling each other and sharing dust with veterans Gary Swan, Joe Pape, and Bill Kee.

Race #3 of the series is June 9th, mark your calendars now. Don't miss it. Here are some photos to tease you for next time.

“Explore America” Collaboration // Refueled X Iron & Resin

Iron & Resin and Refueled come together to premier their first collaboration. "Explore America", a theme adopted from Refueled magazine’s current issue, is presented in a collection of American-made embroidered patches for jackets, workshirts, backpacks or caps. Refueled has always been about the collaborative nature of publisher/creative director Chris Brown. A nature and style that is strongly American rooted. Their "about" page says it all - "It's Americana in all its tattooed dusty glamour. It's a motorbike and a dirt road and a soundtrack, written down, and sketched on a tattered piece of parchment. You can taste it. Fashion that comes from a sexy grit, a rough hewn romance, and honor to roots. Music of the same integrity - with glamorous vintage dirty prayers, lovely songbirds, painful honest poets and honorable degenerates. Beautiful song craft and sweet mad characters. There's the rolling wave and the riders, bikes and boards and artistic adventures in nature. Urban decay and suburban lost horizons and roads that go on forever. The quest to find not the end of the road, but all the beauty along the way."

The Iron & Resin Garage Now Open

The Iron & Resin Garage is located at 324 E. Main St. in the heart of historic downtown Ventura. The one hundred year old building in this blue-collar beach town, steeped in the history of cattlemen, oil roughnecks, surfers and Hell’s Angels, was a fitting location to lay down our roots and display our wares.

The Garage is a natural extension of the Iron & Resin brand, showcasing not only everything Iron & Resin, but also an eclectic mix of heritage and modern brands that we love. It’s both modern and nostalgic at the same time. The Garage is a gentlemen’s emporium of sorts – not catering to the dandy or gallant, but to the man who’s not afraid to roll up his sleeves, get dirt under his nails and ride into the hills to seek refuge in the wind and sky, surviving on whiskey and beef jerky for a week. In terms of style, we think of icons like Steve McQueen, Tom Waits, Keith Richards and Willie Nelson.

The product mix changes weekly. From clothing to surfboards to antiques and vintage finds to vintage motorcycles, helmets and riding gear, The Garage is a traditional general store to outfit the modern man. Along with our offerings of top shelf brands, we feature one of a kind vintage furniture pieces, vintage boots and jackets, accessories and gifts.

With plenty of free motorcycle parking in the back and a large outdoor deck, currently in the works, to host art shows, rides and hootenannies, we hope to see y’all in the flesh in the store or join us at one of our events for a shot and a beer and help us make some memories.

Bonneville Salty Dreams Tour 2012

There is something great about community...and the feeling of running fifth gear wide open. When you put those 2 things together in one of the most beautiful places in the world...only good can come.

Our trip came up last minute, and went from a pipe dream to a journey in less than 36 hours. Before long we were headlong through Vegas traffic and a thunderstorm, headed to the fastest strip of salt in the world. After a few hours of restless sleep we were unloading our favorite machines and making friends from total strangers.

Bonneville Speed Week is a lasting example of a grassroots event organized each year by the same folks who helped to grow it decades ago. World record holders work on inspections, give directions to rookies, and suggest where you might find the best huevos rancheros in a 300 mile radius. The pits are filled with veterans and hopefuls, all shaking hands, passing stickers and sharing shade. People travel from all over the world at a chance to wait in line for over an hour in a leather suit to see how fast they can get their machine to travel across salt, and I feel like we were very fortunate to have been spectators this year. We caught "salt fever", and hope to take out our own in the near future.

Below are a few images we captured along the way.

Our first trip across the salt after the previous evenings thunderstorms and our motorcycles were thoroughly christened.

Captain Diiullo with more salt then pepper.

The British Customs bikes awaiting their turn.

Jason from British Customs putting a few of his motorcycles through their paces.

"Hey Jason...you know this pass doesn't count for the record books...right?".

Toepfer's XS looking mighty fine in it's salty garb.

Have a question? Guaranteed that one of the vets in the pits has got your answer.

1955 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe tow vehicle. Nice!

Salt slicks.

The beezer attracting all kinds of attention.

Lowbrow Customs awesome Double Vision build awaiting Tyler Malinky to give her a go.

Hooligan Derby spectator and local Santa Paula hero Johnny McClure ready to take his turn on Course 3 with the Indian.

Our brother from across the globe, El Solitario staying cool as always in the Utah heat.

Team Carpe Diem setting 41 mph speed records on a 125cc BSA Bantam.

Max Somers and his pit crew, dad Craig, are Bonneville veterans and record holders...91+ mph .

Gear Grinders member and Ventura local Willy, backed up his 245 mph pass in his "Low Sodium" modified roadster and became a record holder and 200mph Bonneville Club member to go along with his 200mph El Mirage membership. He's got more knowledge and skill than most you will run into in Bonneville.

John Kelly is 70 years young and going faster than anyone else in his class on a production OIF Triumph...107+.

Brotherhood and comradery are abundant on the salt flats regardless of your native language.

Safety plays an important role as well.

As soon as you leave the start line you are on your own. Man, machine...and salt!

Do not fuck with Michele Brading! Multiple time record holder. Smashes records. Oh, and did we mention she goes 180+mph in a RZ500 powered 2 stroke lakester.

Better make sure your "lake brakes" are working at those speeds.

See you next year Bonneville...We've got "salt fever".

Iron And Resin Hooligan Derby - Sat. September 1st (Round 4)

OK amigos! Round 4 of the Iron & Resin Hooligan Derby is upon us this Saturday! We've had a couple months between races to wrench on bikes, heal injuries, or in my case, park the hooligan in my garage and watch it collect dust. So dust off your gear, get your machine race ready and saddle up for another round of mayhem and chaos. It is guaranteed to be one of the best rounds yet...a forecast for perfect 75Ëš weather, Labor Day weekend attendance which always brings a packed start line, kustom hot rods and bikes in town for the Ventura Nationals, and this week Zoey's Cafe, hosts The White Buffalo & Brian Wright for some good tunes and spirits after the race.

Saturday's day at the races started just like the last.  Fired up the Weber, caught up with familiar faces, and shared some smiles in the late summer sun.  Even with all the festivities going on at the fairgrounds, people still filled out the stands in support of the event we look forward to every couple of months.

Heat races were heat races, and as we continued to work out the kinks on the bikes we rode in the ocean (check out our latest video on the homepage for that shenanigan)...we made it out unscathed and fast.

The vintage 500cc class was fast fast fast!

As the main events came up we knew we were in for it.  The temps had cooled, and the track wasn't drying out quick enough.  A few quads took to flips and then it was our turn. Lap 1, turn 2, all hell broke loose.  Adam, our pal from BA-Moto Long Beach, caught a slide, and our own Hooligan Tommy T caught one of his own.  As bikes collided and went down, Tommy was run over.  He jumped into the hay bails and the red flags came out.  After the track was cleared, it was time for a restart.

Curtis took his first podium finish!

Jackson all smiles as he was able to hold off Joe Pape this time around!

Nothing says community better than strangers coming up and checking up on your fellow racer.  As we checked on our friend, groups of fellow hooligans and spectators came over to check on him. Always in good spirits, Tommy is ready to heal up and get back on the track for November.

Take a minute and send Tommy a little love via the Iron & Resin Facebook Page. A few broken bones (elbow, 2 ribs and a chipped vertebrae!) won't keep him out for too long!  And don't forget, Hooligan season culminates Nov 3!

2012 Venice Vintage Motorcycle Rally

We're proud to be co-sponsoring the 2012 Venice Vintage Motorcycle Rally with our friends at VVMC this Saturday, Sept. 15th. Should be a day to remember with hundreds of vintage bikes of all makes, good friends, pin-up girls, music and beer. What more could you ask for? They'll be recreating a famous historical motorcycle photo from 1910 under the illuminated Venice sign. If you want to be part of the photo, don't be late. Staging starts at 8:00. Camera clicks at 9:00. After the photo shoot there will be a mass ride up PCH and back (approx. 35 miles round trip). The Rally will last from 11-6. Check out the VVMC site at www.venicevintage.com for a complete itinerary, maps, and entry form for the pin-up contest and bike shows. Hope to see y'all there!

Success at El Camino

Swap meets are always hit or miss, and I always tend to miss out on Long Beach because I can't miss a good Sunday ride. But piecing together a pre unit TR6 necessitates a trip to one of the largest of the year, held this year at Irwindale Speedway. As most swaps in Southern Cal, Harley and chopper parts consume most of the aisles but damned if I wasn't going to find a few gems. The Cycle Zombies always put up a rad tent of goodies at these events including a couple great American bikes and vans, and Curtis met his match as far as negotiating for a helmet...the youngest zombie. If you had $4k in your pocket, you could've gone home with a few different Triumphs or BSAs in various states of customization. We finally figured out where Ronald McDonald retired. Plenty of memorabilia to keep your nostalgic tendencies satisfied. If you haven't had your boots cleaned/shined by this guy, it is totally worth his exuberant sales pitch. I know they will only be clean for the next day or two, but it is still nice to see them shine once in a while.

By noon we had sweat out our breakfast Red Bulls and our money.  I came home with a fully rebuilt front end from some folks from Arizona, and a rigid trans case courtesy of Four Aces Wes. The guy educated me and saved me a ton of cash.  Many thanks dude, you got a customer for life.

Second Sunday Ride - October 14th

Mark your calendars! Join us October 14th for our monthly Second Sunday ride. This ride will take us through the twisties above Ojai, over Pine Mountain to the historic Camp Sheideck. We'll enjoy a few cold ones before heading back. Meet at The Garage at 9am for coffee and donuts. Ass in saddle at 10am sharp, gassed and ready. All bikes are welcome. See you on the Second Sunday!

The Inaugural Second Sunday Ride

This weekends inaugural Second Sunday ride had such a great turnout. Thanks to all who came out and joined us for such a great day of amazing roads, weather and a first-class group of Freedom Riders. See you for next month's Second Sunday ride.

The gathering of men and machines around 9:00am.

A few took advantage of needed caffine and sugar jolt for the coming miles.

60 winding miles up the road and the arrival to Camp Sheideck sends you back in time.

A few shady characters discussing cornering techniques or some other BS.

A welcomed sight for thirsty travelers.

Never, ever question an establishment that has a Jackalope on the wall...Never!

Or has a bar top that is completely filled with pocket knife carvings.

Or a window filled with stickers from all the local MC's.

No one dared to test this.

I guess our ride was the wrong weekend.

The Hooligan is still healing...but great to see him "back in the saddle".

More dangerous than the Rabid Shih Tzus but not as scary as the Rabid Rottweilers...only because they're handicapped.

Underestimation of fuel range...but only by a mile or so.

Iron And Resin Hooligan Derby - Sat. November 3rd (Final Round)

This is it! The final round of 2012! It's your last chance to get your rubber onto Ventura's infamous oval and throw around some dirt, dust and possibly a few elbows. As always, the Iron & Resin Hooligan Derby is a "run whatcha brung" race, so bring out your old CB, british oil dripper, old rigid chopper, your sisters scooter, or your brand new bagger and ride the wheels off the thing...you'll have 6 months to get it back into derby condition. We hope to see you all out there for another saturday night of two wheeled brotherhood and left turn chaos. Don't forget that every Hooligan Derby entry gets a free shirt that is only available to racers.

Click THIS LINK to download the race registration form. We look forward to seeing you all Saturday!

Oakland to PCH on 3 wheels

As we look forward to the winter months and the adventures we are soon to have, it is hard not to see into the next year.  The guys have been brainstorming on where our adventures will take us and by what means we will get there.

Curtis and I made a quick trip to Oakland to pick up a new inspiration machine and give it a whirl.  There are no hard and fast details as of yet, but shit was it a hell of a ride.

Oakland to Ventura via URAL and Highway 1.  Sea to shining sea my friends.

Looking forward to the next steps! Enjoy the vid.

Hooligans & Hodads

We had a great turnout for this past weekends Hooligans & Hodads event at the store. We extend a hand of gratitude and appreciation...as well as double shakas, to all who supported and attended the event. A special big thanks go out to Red Wings Shoes, Tres Noir, Fulmer Helmets, Richer Poorer, Hershel Supply Co, Grant's Pomade, Figueroa Mtn. Brewing Co, Boccalis Vineyard, and Michael Kelly, all of who donated their goods and services to support our event and Movember.

Cierra and her crew did a great job getting the right pieces in place for a flawless gathering.

Motorcycles of all makes and models continued to roll in throughout the afternoon.

Kelly of Michael Kelly was doing an excellent job cutting and clipping non-stop, making hodads look less like hodads, and more like hooligans.

Party goers of all shapes and sizes enjoyed themselves on the sunbathed back patio.

The beverages flowed freely...

Big thanks go out to Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. for providing some of the best tasting suds around.

Zeltzer & The Tortoise dispensed a perfect soundtrack for the duration of the afternoon.

By late afternoon the parking was completely packed with all degrees of craftmanship and class.

Jess seriously upping the level of class...

and Winter Leather Goods making sure to raise the bar on the craftsmanship standards.

The crew from Pistol Magazine came and graced us with an impressive variation of lip shade.

Drew giving us no lip...just teeth!

The patio stayed packed long into the evening.

Weasel the dingo keeping it cool and staying warm as it got dark.

Join in the adventure. You don't want to be killed by monotony.

Second, Second Sunday

For our second monthly 'Second Sunday Ride' we cruised up to the vintage motorcycle museum located in Solvang, CA.  Just over an hour of a ride, we took the 101 only as far as we needed, and were quickly in the canyons behind Santa Barbara to enjoy the rolling hills and autumn oaks.

Of course we started at the I&R Garage for some donuts, coffee and heckling.

Curtis and Cierra took the Ural...not sure if Cierra knew Curtis was planning to spend most of the day on only two wheels.

Greg's shovelhead chop was a welcomed addition to the crew this weekend.

But unfortunately it was having a bit of an electrical issue and couldn't make the rest of the ride.

Finally off the highway and into the hills

Our wounded hooligan Tommy T and his beez were all healed up and cruising just fine at speed

Even in a tough economy, James Dean can find a job as a greeter.

Beautiful!

Vincent land speed record holder? Yes.'Please do not touch, or jrool.'

Back on the road for some lunch

Cierra being a savage.

Movember in full swing at Cold Springs Tavern.

Always good to have a few of the fairer side to keep us grounded or tell us we're nuts.

Was a great ride to be a part of, and fun showing some new folks to the group a few hidden gems in our area. We hope we have even more for next time, as we finish up the ride at David Mann's Chopperfest at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Should be a great time, checking out the bikes and enjoying the winter sun.

Second Sunday Ride and ChopperFest - December 9th

This month's Second Sunday Ride is gonna be a good one! Looks like it is gonna be a perfect 70 degrees for this Sunday's ride that will end at the 9th Annual David Mann ChopperFest. We will make this Second Sunday ride a short one in order to get back to ChopperFest and join in the festivities. As always, we will meet at The Iron & Resin Garage for donuts and caffeine at 9:00am and head out promptly at 10:00am. All riders who join in the ride will receive 1/2 price access to ChopperFest and preferred, in-show parking. Hell, get to ride and get a break on admission...can't go wrong. See you there. Second Sunday & David Mann's Chopperfest

Every year, Ventura's The Shop sponsors David Mann's Chopperfest here in our home town of Ventura, CA.  This year, we decided to get in the mix, sponsor the event alongside some great local and visiting brands, and share in the festivities by matching a ride into the event.

Our morning started early, setting up the booth and getting everything set up, and we were out to the store to catch some coffee and donuts before riding out for our monthly Second Sunday ride.

Just a quick loop this time, around Lake Casitas through the canyons and back out onto the calm coastal highway. We squeezed through the line for parking and walked our bikes right into the even and behind our booth.

Quick break after the twisties

Back at the fairgrounds, it was already a festival of denim and leather.

Active pinstriping station, right next door

Our trooper Cierra, from dawn til dusk at the booth! She hates having her photo taken.

It wasn't all chopped up v-twins...there were plenty of British and Japanese machines there waving the cafe flag.

Ana...always with that big smile and ESMB charm!

Until you've met Jen, of Bandit Brand, you'll have to take my word on it that she kicks ass, figuratively and literally.

Lot's of freebies being handed out...but Winter Leather Co. decided to hand tool leather keychains for anyone who came by the booth. Serious craftsman.

Ball-peen means business

Chop, chop, kick, kick...repeat.

Three wheels forever

Matt of Pistol Magazine, another local favorite, good guy, and camera guru.

Kyle, stirring up the shit.

Another great event at the fairgrounds, a cool way to celebrate a great artist's legacy, local business, and a growing, diverse community. Iron & Resin, over and out

Second Sunday Ride - January 13th

Hey Freedom Riders! This month's Second Sunday ride has decided to take a holiday. It will return in February with a refreshed and improved zeal for the asphalt. But don't let Second Sunday's vacation keep ya' from burning a few gallons of petrol this weekend on your two wheeled mayhem scooter. Ride free brothers and sisters!

Second Sunday Ride - February 10th

Second Sunday has returned from holiday and is itching to get back in the saddle. Meet at the usual time and place. 9am on the rear patio, at The Iron & Resin Garage. 324 E. Main St., Ventura for donuts, caffeine and the typical pre-ride adjustments and repairs. This week we will head south down the coast from Rice Rd. and stop for a quick breather at the always amusing Neptune's Net. The ride will then continue up Mullholland for a couple great stretches of twisties, through the famous Snake, where more than likely your picture will be taken by the always vigilant Mr. Herold. After we gather back up at the Rock Store, we will head to Kanan Rd. and catch the 101 northbound and back to Ventura. Second Sunday has enjoyed it's holiday, but it is ready for some two-wheeled camaraderie...Hope to see you all there!

To Catch a Triton

When I first saw this motorcycle, it was in parts on a lift in our local salty brit shop.  I'd never seen a Triton up close, and knew immediately that this was a dream come true in slow motion for Thom.  I'd never seen him react to a motorcycle quite like this, and in the early days our conversations were almost always dominated by our two-wheeled dreams. This bike was to be the one.

Two years later, I saw him kick it to life. Two years is a long time to build and wait for a motorcycle you think about everyday.  In California we are blessed with riding all year round, which is a bit of a curse at times.  As soon as a project is running, I am often on the road immediately into the sunshine, and often neglect the time-consuming details that make a bike stand out above the rest.  Patience is a virtue, and the Triton is built of patience.

Custom, hand-formed aluminum tank.

Adjustable clip ons with Magura levers and a whirlpool throttle.

Custom rearsets, Dresda motor mount plates.

After watching him wait two years for it to come together, we couldn't keep up with him or the bike.

Second Sunday Ride - March 10th

Forecast, a sunny 66°, with a chance of wide open winding roads. Get your bike ready and head out for this month's Second Sunday ride. Meet at the usual time and place on the rear patio, at The Iron & Resin Garage. 324 E. Main St., Ventura. This Sunday 9am is going to feel a little earlier as clocks will be loosing an hour due to daylight savings. Donuts, caffeine and pre-ride adjustments and repairs as is the routine. At 10am we will head out down Foothill Rd. through the citrus groves and into Santa Paula before turning up the 150 and into the hills. Once through the hills and into the Upper Ojai Valley, we will turn onto 33 for a few miles and head to the famous Deer Lodge where we will stop for lunchtime food and refreshments. Once all cravings have been satisfied we will head back down the 33 and towards Ventura. Don't forget to set your clocks ahead on Saturday night. Looking forward to seeing everyone out there!

March Second Sunday

After a little well deserved rain, this weekend couldn't have been a better one for riding.  All of the usual suspects came along for the ride, which took us from our home base at The Garage through the farms to Santa Paula, and over the 150 into the Ojai Valley.  One of our shorter rides, but definitely one of the most beautiful so far.

Free donuts...get's 'em every time!

Short and sweet on a beautiful day to ride. Save up your energy for next month, we are heading for a campout in the mountains! Stay tuned for a flyer, but keep 4/20-4/21 open, we are heading to the hills for some BBQ, some tunes, and some whiskey.

The First Annual Iron & Resin Hooligan Hoedown

"I would rather wake up in the middle of nowhere than in any city on earth." - Steve McQueen

There aren't many things better than the Spring riding season in California. Pair that with good friends, good music, and sleeping under the stars and you've pretty much found paradise.

On April 20-21, Iron & Resin will be hosting our first annual Spring Moto Campout - The Hooligan Hoedown. Ride in and meet us there or join us for a group ride from The Garage to Camp Sheideck, a remote outpost pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Located 37 miles north of Ojai, along a picturesque river, Camp Sheideck dates back to the early 1900s, providing shelter, a post office (for early valley pioneers) and a sip of moonshine for the weary traveler. Today, the pioneer era saloon at Sheideck, known as Reyes Creek Bar, offers some of the coldest beer, strongest whiskey and the best jukebox around for miles.

Group camping facilities are provided and we encourage all who are there to spend the night. In addition to the group site, there are more private sites available along the river. An all you can eat tri-tip & chicken barbecue will get things heated up as the the bands start to take to the stage. This will be a night to remember with plenty of stories to share with those willing to make the trek over the mountain. We'll be announcing the bands each week, as we get closer, but rest assured, there will be good music. We'll also have plenty of gear to give away from Iron & Resin and the other brands that we feature in The Garage.

So get your bike ready, grab your girl (or guy) and dust off your sleeping bag and head into the hills for a weekend to remember.

(Special note: ALL are welcome to this event - whether on four wheels or two)

$25 per person - includes camping, music and all you can eat barbecue dinner.

Second Sunday Ride - April 20th

Attention. Attention. This month's Second Sunday ride is being moved to the third Sunday this month so that it coincides with our First Annual Hooligan Hoedown. If you think Coachella is overpriced, over-hyped, too hot, too many people wearing cool sneaker, and more laptops making music than you can stand, than come and join us for what will be a real great time with some real instruments, real food, and definitely some real folks. GO HERE to purchase tickets your tickets now.

First Annual Hooligan Hoedown SUCCESS!

We just got back from the run to Camp Scheideck, and couldn't help but get some photos out to everyone!  A little sunburn, a lot of whiskey, some serious bbq, and tunes into the wee hours of the morning made for a great evening in the mountains with friends old and new.

First off, thank you to everyone who came! What a great turnout for our first campout event.  There must have been between 30-40 bikes and a couple of classic cars in the main group that left The Garage with us!  Definitely had a couple hundred folks in throughout the night!

Secondly, thank you to our hosts at Reyes Creek, and the bands that performed all night! Big thanks to Zeltzer and the Tortoise, Big Jugs, and Blackout Party for keeping the music going all night.

Some photos!

Gassin' up in Ojai...last gas for 110 miles...tight mileage for some of the older bikes!  Just about to hit triple digit temps in the Ojai Valley, and most of us were ready to shed the layers we would need in the mountain pass.

Just an incredible custom that came out with us! A Noble Fabrication custom low rider.

Our very own Cierra, killing it as usual.

Just one of the many group campsites we commandeered throughout the day at Camp Scheideck.

This guy. Camped out in his Falcon Wagon, and offered to bring back some of our gear to Ventura! Thanks Dan.

This is Wes from Ride Apart's personal I&R shop rag...apparently that hole is from a crash that burnt through his pants and our rag...

Lined up right next to the creek.

So much attitude...that's his 'I'm having a great time' finger. Greg from Winter Co.

Homestyle cooking in the hills!

All ages welcome! Carhartt overalls and all!

Scheideck is an old mining encampment, and adjacent to the campground is a great little ghost town.

One of the sponsors of the event, Bandit Brand owner Jen!

Let this be a teaser as to what it is like to see Big Jugs live!

The crowd, well fed.

Insert witty 'tipping' phrase here.

The raffle prizes included Red Wing boots, a Schott NYC jacket, Bell helmets, and gear from British Customs and Iron & Resin.

A different sort of child.

Once the temp started to drop, we headed indoors for more drinks, music, pool and dancing.

Needless to say, it was significantly colder waking up than riding in.

Definitely the coolest Sportster around, and kept the bikes wanting.

Unfortunately, Tommy T's (our wounded warrior hooligan!) meticulous BSA didn't finish the trip home.

A pair of police escorts. Samson, one of the Garage associates, is riding this thing cross country in a couple of weeks!

Out of the valley, and into the sun!

Needless to say, this is probably the best view I could hope for on a Sunday morning.

It was all good times this weekend, and thank you again to everyone who took part. Some thrills and spills, and tons of smiles with good folks. We are hoping to do this again and often, so stay tuned. If you have any photos of your own from the weekend, send them over to our facebook! There were a lot of people out, and we'd love to see how everyone's experience was! Ride safe. Iron & Resin!

Hooligan Hoedown Photos #2

We definitely wanted to share as many photos as possible from the Hoedown last weekend, and here is a set from Samson Hatae, another member of our family of jokers.

Thanks so much Sammy!

See you all next time!

King of Hearts Night x Iron & Resin

Sleek two wheeled machines, pin-ups, artist, live bands, MC's, DJs, projections, and a crowd engineered for petrol flow...Sounds like our kind of party! The guys from the Barbers Crew hosted King Of Hearts night at Officine San Lorenzo in Rome and Iron & Resin was out in full force. The Officine San Lorenzo is a garage and Moto Guzzi dealer turned nightclub by night that knows how to throw one heck of a true biker party. The event brought out hundreds of people and was a great success! Look out for coverage of the event in the next issue of Special Café Magazine. A big thanks to Nicco with Iron & Resin, Officine San Lorenzo, The Barbers Crew, Special Café Magazine, and everyone who made the night happen. Here are some pictures from the night!

Wheels & Waves

We made the journey across the pond to attend the second annual Wheels & Waves Festival in the beautiful coastal city of Biarritz. Needless to say, the French did not disappoint. Art, music, bikes and some rad folks to hang out with over three days of events. Vincent Prat and co. did a great job. We're already looking forward to next year's W&W III. Here's the official video. Enjoy.

Limited Edition Iron & Resin X Vanson Gloves

Iron & Resin x Vanson Riding Gloves

Iron & Resin stands by a few key principles when it comes to product - design it to be the best, hand craft it in America, and build it to last. In a world of mass production and job outsourcing, there are a handful of companies out there that share these basic tenets. Vanson Leathers is one such company. Since 1974, Vanson has been hand crafting the highest quality rider specific leather jackets, gloves and race suits in their Massachusetts factory.

Vanson leather believes it is all about the "feel" from the machine and ability to operate controls with sensitivity. Vanson gloves help you achieve a "oneness" with the bike. Leather stretches more in one direction than another and Vanson takes this into consideration when each piece is cut. Each glove is placed on a heated form to gently stretch and shape to the exact size. Every glove is hand stitched from matched pieces using nylon thread. All gloves have their own I.D. number, which allows them to track each glove through manufacturing and insure absolute quality control.

The gloves we designed with our friends at Vanson are the ideal gloves we would want to own. Retro inspired, yet highly functional, with double layer, cross stitch palm panels, double layer protection for the back of your hand and fingers, and a velcro closure, sealed with an Iron & Resin Anchor Piston rivet. The entire glove is made from premium American deer hide for extreme suppleness and comfort. These are available now in very limited quantities. Get yours in The Garage or in our online store.

Introducing The Rambler Jacket

Introducing the Iron & Resin Rambler Jacket and Vest

Good things never go out of style with the passage of time. Great things just get better with the passage of time. Being purveyors of items that we find most useful in our day to day lives, our new waxed canvas jacket and vest is sure to become a new favorite. Tested by the Iron & Resin family over the past six months in a host of misadventures, these jackets have survived salt water near drownings while fending off tsunami like sneaker waves in Pismo Beach, being catapulted over handlebars on motorcycles in the deserts of Baja, off roading through the cool mists of Big Sur, and cross country on a pair of retired highway patrol bikes in torrential downpours. They, of course, have also been our favorite go-to on our day to day taco or surf runs. Built from heavy duty 10.10 oz. Martexin Waxed canvas, YKK zippers, heavy nickel 3-prong buttons, soft corduroy lined collar, waste and arm openings, this jacket wears like armor and is built to last for life. Martexin waxed canvas has been made in America by the same company since 1838 and is a breathable yet wind proof and waterproof durable cotton fabric. The canvas develops a patina over time that is unique to the wearer, much like a favorite pair of denim. The fit is classic and familiar, like your favorite trucker jacket and is equally functional while riding your motorbike or swinging an ax. Designed in our Ventura, CA studios and handmade right here in Southern California.

Union Thread for Iron & Resin

Let's face it. Summer is almost over and unless you're in a state of denial you're going to need some socks in the very near future. We've teamed up with our good friends at Richer Poorer to bring you the only four pair of socks you really, truly need. Wheels, waves, anchor-pistons, and tire tracks pretty much dominate our daily consciousness. Now they can dominate your feet too. Of course, they're made right here in the USA. One Year Anniversary!

It's hard to believe one year has gone by. It's been a blur of asphalt, dirt, waves, mountains, whiskey and coffee. So many good memories and just as many friendships formed. We've been humbled and overwhelmed at the response and support we've gotten for our little home grown brand and retail store. We've got a special anniversary event planned to say thankyou to you, our customers and friends. From 12-6 we'll be featuring trunk shows from some of our favorite brands, such as Redwing Heritage, Taylor Stitch, Throne Watches, Midnight Rider, Sons of Trade, Uppercut Deluxe and others, as well as free barber services from our good friends Eagle & Pig and Uppercut Deluxe. We'll be on site hand printing some limited edition tees and a photo booth will be on hand to capture the memories. You're also invited to stay into the evening when we'll have 805 beer from Firestone and tacos provided by El Ray. To top it off we'll have live music from The Cerny Brothers from 7-9.

If you plan on being there after the trunk shows for tacos, beers and music, please RSVP HERE

1 Year Anniversary Party

If you missed the party for the 1 Year Anniversary of the Iron & Resin Garage you missed a doozy. For all of you who came, our deepest thanks.  To have our flagship store in our hometown is a blessing, and for it to grow into this community of good folks is a constant reminder of why we opened the doors in the first place.  From custom watch bands to custom haircuts we were slinging denim and hand sewn bags until the sun went down.  After that the brews and the tacos took over, and we kept the live music of The Cerny Brothers going late into the night!

Many thanks to our many sponsors! Redwing Heritage, Taylor Stitch, Throne Watches, Midnight Rider, Sons of Trade, and Uppercut Deluxe. We also want to thank The Cerny Brothers for keeping the night going with some great music.

And to those who participated in the silent auction thank you! We raised over $1,000 for the Best Day Foundation.

Thanks to Lion Booth for the amazing photo booth images which can be seen in full HERE

Beacon x Iron & Resin Coffee

Recently I had a chance to catch up with the great folks at Beacon Coffee. Beacon Coffee is a full force roasting house that produces some of the best artisan coffee around. As a serious coffee aficionado, I tend to be very picky when it comes to getting my daily caffeine fix. Well ever since our first bag of Iron & Resin beans hit the shelf, I haven't had anything else to drink.

When you first walk in to their operation, you are hit with an aroma that is unrivaled to anything else you may have ever smelled. It's an aromatic sensory overload to say the least. The delectable, robust and warming smells had my mouth salivating in minutes. Amongst the massive burlap bags full of unroasted imported raw coffee beans from places like Nicaragua and Costa Rica, is a shiny roaster; the heart of the operation. I watched as the roaster churned the beans inside a drum at temperatures over 400°. With a number of factors contributing to the degree of roasting, it is imperative that the internal bean temperature is monitored and the color is observed throughout the roasting. I would say Beacon has this part down pat!

Much like working on a bike or building a surfboard, the art of roasting is a true science and requires a great love for what you are doing. After meticulously checking roasted bean samples and taste testing every new batch of imported beans, let me assure you that the guys over at Beacon are not only passionate about every bag of coffee they pack but they have also mastered the art of roasting unlike anyone else.

Iron & Resin x Beacon Coffee offers a little bit of everything and I assure that you won't be disappointed in a bag. If you aren't sure what roast to get, grab one based on your favorite bike. After all the blends are named appropriately; The Tracker, The Café, The Chopper and The Scrambler.

1969 BSA A50 Bobber Salt Flats Scoot

I am a sucker for Beezers. My fascination started a young boy in my uncles meticulously kept garage. He was a very proud owner of an immaculate 1958 Gold Star that sat like a prized sculpture to the side of his perfectly organized work bench, that no one was able to touch let alone get too close. This beautiful piece of chrome covered machinery that sat there unable to be touched, or god forbid be ridden, has caused me to have a distorted view of BSA's. I think because of my uncle, to me, BSA motorcycles are the most perfectly balanced of all british built machines.

This particular BSA started as a pretty regular old A50 Royal Star with a recently rebuilt, stout running motor. My buddy had picked it up as a bike for his wife to ride along with on the weekend rides. As it turned out, it was much too much motorcycle for his wife as well as her leg to kickstart. When my buddy decided his wife needed something with a push button start, I jumped at the chance and was more than happy to take it off his hands for what he had spent.

I already had a custom cafe'd 69 Thunderbolt in my garage as well as 1960's built rigid bobber frame that I had visions of building. The idea was for a bobber similar to those that used to run around the Bonneville Salt Flats back in the day. Not necessarily a race bike just one that feels at home on wide open sheets of salt. The custom rigid frame used the stock main frame, cradle, and head tube, but had a beautiful stretch, and was perfectly low slung for the bike floating around in my head. Somewhere along the way the frame gussets and joints were molded and shaped in with bondo, as was the fashion in the 70's. Nearly as soon as I unloaded the Royal Star in the garage, I began dismantling it so that it could start taking shape in it's new, lower frame. With bondo removed and motor mocked up in frame, it became a scavenger hunt for the parts that I needed to complete the vision. The parts hunt took a good couple of months scouring the web and visiting all swap meets within a couple hours drive. As luck would have it, just a month or so after completion, two buddies asked if I was interested in heading out to the salt flats and that they had room in the trailer for another motorcycle. "Hell yes, I'm in!" A few days later it rolled onto the salt where it never felt more at home. It wasn't built to break any land speed records, but it sure fit right in among the rest of the machines filling their every nook and crevice with the white granular substance.

The bike couldn't have been completed with out the help and patience from my family and friends. Specifically Tommy T for his late night bike wizardry and Curtis for his metalsmithing skills. It is now time for me to make room in the garage for new visions and I am looking to send the bike to a new home/garage. For Sale $6200. Serious buyers only. We recently took part in the 2013 Distinguished Gentleman's Ride to help raise funds for research into Men's Prostate Cancer. The ride is held in over 110 cities worldwide on the exact same day and thousands of riders show up in their finest attire. Most of us reserve our suit and bow tie for weddings and other special days such as appearances in court for speeding tickets. Now, we can add another occasion to the list.

This past Sunday was another beautiful day in Ventura, CA. With the sun out and light ocean breeze, there was no better time to get dapper and fire up your bike. A flurry of people showed up at the Iron & Resin Garage looking spruce and ready to ride, however, first thing was first...coffee and doughnuts. After an extensive admiration session and a handful of laughs, off everyone went. With about 30 riders, we rode up Santa Paula Rd. and through Ojai in true style. After turning plenty of heads, we stopped for a well deserved Italian lunch from the famous Bocalli's. With our bellies full, we were ready to hit the road and made our way down the 33 to come full circle and end our ride back at the Iron & Resin Garage.

Jalama Overnighter

The epical Jalama Burger was calling our name, so we gathered a group who wanted to escape and camp out for the night, and hopefully get some surf in the morning. We loaded up our trusty Ural and the chase van with surfboards and hit the road. The ride up wasn't a "breeze" like it usually is, but more of a battle against the strong winds the whole way there. Our campsite was awaiting us nice and cleared out from the winds, and there seemed to be a lull in the gusts so we set up as fast as we could. It was about time to head over to the famous Jalama Beach Store and get some burgers for dinner, so we piled everyone up in and on the Ural (five people) to make the short journey across the campsite. There were more confused looks from the other campers than expected. Once fueled up for the night we had to go catch the sunset from the road coming in. Chasing the last light, we got up to enjoy the sun set into the pacific.

There is very little light pollution in this area and it gives an endless view of the stars in the night sky. Once the fire was going, the stories and shenanigans started as we burned through our three bundles of wood. Everyone crawled into their tents as the last log burnt out. The breeze never stopped and the tents rustled all night. Morning came sooner than expected but that isn't a big worry when you can hear some swell in the water. We gathered our surfboards and wetsuits and got ready for a stroll down the beach to Tarantulas to get some surf. Paddled out for a fun morning session and surfed until the wind switched. Sitting out in the line up looking back and seeing no buildings or roads is a great feeling. The fact that the only way there is by foot makes you appreciate that places like these still exist.

Hungry for breakfast, we headed back to the beach store for another Jalama burger, just as good as the last. Stuffed full, we loaded up the bikes and van, and were on our way back to Ventura. It was a short 24 hour escape, but sometimes that is what you need for a quick refresher before getting back to "reality".

Hell on Wheels Halloweenish Hillclimb

A couple of the Iron & Resin family members took to the road for Hell on Wheels MC's annual Halloween Hillclimb! A little early for the holiday, but everyone was happy to slap some costumes together for the event.

Scott took out his Harley 45" flathead, one of the original bikes used for hill climbing! Rigid frame, springer front end, not much else.

Samson brought his pristine Kawi 100cc two-stroke, but multiple attempts at shade tree carb rebuilding couldn't get this one running long enough to hit the course.

Plenty of modern bikes raced the mx/hill course against the clock, while the rest of us really just tried not to dump the bike down the hill on the way up. After 3 attempts at the hill, Scott's trusty suicide shifter couldn't make it, leaving the bike upside down on the course while he tumbled a bit down himself. Connet of BA-Moto in Long Beach and Mike of the Trophy Motorcycles crew from San Diego both defeated the hill on their hard tail British beauties (Connet on his BSA, Mike on a Triumph) leaving Harley-Davidson to ask for a rematch next year.

Many thanks to Meatball and Hayden, and everyone who came out for a weekend of great vibes.

Photos courtesy of Scott Toepfer and Samson Hatae.

Nate Hudson, BA-Moto presidente, got a little excited and threw his fruity booty at everyone he could find. He also conquered the hill on his two-smoking Japanese chariot.

This about sums up the relationship that Nate and Scott have.

The always inspiring Toast came out with her Super 8mm! Always cheering on the knuckleheaded dudes, win or lose.

The Dangers... so much to see, so little to say. Fantastic showing considering how little they were leaving to the imagination! Great sports and showmen/women.

Fantastic photographer and killer sportsman, Nevin Pontius, of course jumped his 'Radbike' KZ650 off the finish of the hillclimb. Big smiles and always a pleasure to see.

Hooligan Hoedown #2 : Pappy & Harriet's and Pioneer Town

On any typical Friday, it would be greater with a deep breath of relief as we recline a little and plan some fun for the weekend. But in this case we'd been planning for months and on this particular Friday there was nothing but anticipation and preparation.

We teamed up with the guys at Uppercut Deluxe to put on our second Hooligan Hoedown in Pioneertown, CA home to the legendary BBQ and rock music venue known as Pappy and Harriet's.

Since we were headed out to the desert, we had different groups of riders meet up in different areas, only to converge at the Morongo Casino lot. Thanks to the folks at Seaweed and Gravel, Glory, and Eagle and Pig Barbershop for coordinating their riders so we could all make it.

From there it was a fun take over of the I-10 Eastbound, and straight up towards Joshua Tree.

We took over horse corrals to camp in and set up a stage in the back. Pulled pork plates, music from 4 bands, a few pallets in the fire, what else could we ask for!

This set of photos from Scott Toepfer, more to come from Jessica Chiang and Samson Hatae.

The Iron & Resin office...

Motorcycle News Australia

Australian Motorcycle Magazine brings an awesome story of the Iron & Resin crew and our adventures at Hooligan Hoedown in Joshua Tree.

The Pacific Awakens

So the Pacific finally woke up and the California coast lit up like a Christmas tree. The reports were calling for some serious size, and not only was it going to be clean but we were in store for back-to-back swell.

It was time to dust off the bigger boards, hit the points, and check all of the weird nooks and crannies that lay dormant most of the year. The office was frothing to get in the water and as soon as the first long period swell showed on the buoys we were out there.

The swell brought some of the most dreamy winter surf conditions and it was about as good as it could get. A few of the days had some solid size. That's when you find yourself surfing a point and picking off 100-yard rights. Even some of the beach breaks held the size, but only for the ones that could make it outside and get lucky enough to avoid the phantom sets.

Its times like this when you remember how lucky you are to live in the Golden State.

Here are just a few pics we were able to snag before running out into the line up and getting some of the best surf this year.

Not a day goes by where we don't think about how lucky and thankful we are to call the Golden State home. Living in Ventura and having one of the most consistent and playful point breaks as our front yard, one of our favorite things to do is paddle out and share waves with a few good friends.

Our good friend Dylan Gordon shot this epic video of fellow Venturan, Troy Mothershead, sliding around out front. From Troy's relaxed style, Dylan's creative eye and the brisk shoulder high waves rolling through the point, this collection of moving images really shows off what it's all about.

The One Show

It all began when the mail arrived, and we opened an invitation to show a bike at this year's The One Motorcycle Show. We knew we had to be there and that this was not an event to miss. After much consideration, we decided on a 1967 Triumph T100C Street tracker to enter in the show. We were down to the wire and making last minute improvements up until the night before, but we managed to finish with enough time to pack up and haul out. Despite the late night and early morning, our drive was expected to be relatively easy with three drivers, and it was until we crossed the state border into Oregon. Everyone making the trek from California up to Oregon flooded social media with photos from the road ahead, and the snow covering it. As night fell 12 hours into our drive, we became faced with those snowy images and were immersed in the same storm, without chains or 4-wheel drive, and a show bike in tow! The roads went from black to white as traffic slowed down and stopped at some points. There were cars, trailers, and big rigs slipping and sliding off the road. Not wanting that same fate, we white knuckled it for another 7 hours to cover that last leg of the road. Upon late night arrival at the show location, everyone was stoked to see people were actually getting there in one piece despite road conditions. So we grabbed a burger at the closest local hang out and off to our hotel we went.

After getting some rest in our crowded hotel room, we headed back to the show for photos. Throughout the morning and into the afternoon, people were still arriving after getting stuck somewhere in the "Snowpocalypse" as it was now being called. Being from Southern California, it's not often that we get to see a city covered in that much snow, so of course we started snow ball fights, and slipping and sliding around as often as we could. Portland is full of awesome coffee shops and places to eat, so we took full advantage of free time to grab some good grub from the few places that stayed open. The city felt deserted. Since the streets weren't being plowed, it was either chains, cross country skis or staying inside. None of those three being an option for us, we hit the town exploring. Better yet, the usually crowded spots were now empty and we never had to wait for a table or worry about parking. Back at the show, opening night made for a fully packed house. Live music, pizza, brews, and tons of good people filled up the entire two levels of the show, where you couldn't really take a look at the motorcycles on display.

The "Snowpocalypse" continued throughout the weekend and the town was still pretty shut down. Expecting that the show would be less crowded, we headed back early the next day to check out the motorcycles on display, but the show was still packed with people. Driving around town, we saw some local kids sledding through the parks and knew it was time to join in on that fun. So we picked up a few more hooligans across town and upped the ante on your typical "sledding" by taking advantage of the empty streets, the van, and the tow-straps we had in back. It made for a grand entrance back to The One Show, or as it was now being called "The One Snow". The night festivities at the show concluded with a ridiculously perfect performance by Purple Rain (a prince cover band) and many bad dance moves. Then like the hooligans we are, we had to get some more sledding in and went to a local park to get some more ice sliding in.

Unfortunately, the last day of the show was cancelled due to frozen road conditions that were deemed "unsafe" to drive in. All the bikes were being picked up and the roads were still empty. Of course some folks make good use of the snow and empty streets and rip around on their show bikes, most notable the Bixby Moto dudes in their mini side hack. The show had come to an end, but it was one hell of a weekend for everyone in Portland. The "Snowpocolypse" was over and we had survived an epic weekend that we will not soon forget. If you have the chance to make it to The One Show next year, make it a point to get there and be ready for a good time.

Shreddin' the Dunes

Pismo beach is home of over 1,500 acres of sand dunes and 5 1/2 miles of beach open for vehicle use. Seeking a new adventure, a few I&R team members gathered to head up North and shred the dunes on rental ATV's for the day. Unfortunately, we left the sunshine back home in Ventura, but it was a nice to be riding through the marine layer over the sand, into a mysterious horizon. We stayed in a tight pack most of the time to avoid getting split up or lost, and it made for better formation in our matching team jerseys. Cierra, Queen of the Dunes, showed us how it was done by racing in the bowls and climbing hills. Four wheels in the sand is such a blast. The sand is such a soft impact that you can whip around and counter steer the whole way, and if you high side (like some of us did ) you have a soft landing. The dunes were pretty empty, almost as if we had the place to ourselves. It's easy to get lost in the hills having fun on four wheels, but we had to head back to avoid a search party seeking out their rentals. We took the beach back and covered the quads and ourselves in salt water and mud, making it back just in time for the next fun seekers. Before heading home, we fueled our stomaches with cheeseburgers, and ice cream to top it all off. A perfect day trip for anyone looking to get out there and have some fun in the sand.

The Perfect Sweatshirt- The New INR Loopback Terry Fleece Collection

We've never worked harder at perfection than with our new loopback terry sweatshirts. Next to denim and t-shirts, we pretty much live in sweatshirts - crews, hoodies, pullovers - they're the most practical garments we own. So you can understand our drive to make the best sweatshirt possible. It's taken us nearly 12 months to get it right, working closely with our knit house in Los Angeles, but dammit, if we didn't do it.

All of our fleece have been over dyed and garment washed to insure a super soft touch and perfect fit. Along with the chunky, heavy weight 18 oz. cotton-poly loopback material, each fleece features rib cuffs and waistband and an INR woven label.

Whether its a long ride back from the hot springs or a brisk morning on the boat out to the islands our sweatshirts are built tough and ready for the elements. Features like the double button closure and cinch hood on the Todos Santos gives you that extra bit of protection and helps fight that nagging breeze that always seems to find its way past your layers.

Our Coronado Crew was Inspired by commercial fisherman friends who were always working with their arms in the water. They'd cut the sleeves off their sweatshirts, to avoid soaking them. This short sleeved crew is our new favorite go to piece, providing freedom to work or play.

Rugged, timeless, enduring - the Iron & Resin spring fleece collection has been skillfully constructed to fit your every need and is 100% made in the USA!

Sammy's Tellason's

When I first decided to take off on a criss cross journey around the country by motorcycle I knew I wanted some solid garments to be in. I picked up my Iron and Resin Rambler Jacket the day before the trip to wear and do some massive road testing in. I previously had been wearing some Red Wing Iron Rangers for a few months and knew they would be the boots for me to wear. The denim I picked up on the second day of the trip straight from the Tellason headquarters in San Francisco. I wanted a thicker pair to help cut out some of the elements while riding and knew that the 16.5oz John Graham Mellor jeans would be a great fit. Like any raw denim, they were pretty stiff at first, and throwing the leg over the saddle was difficult but got much easier with time and wear. They were put through the ringer right away with many hours in the sun, wind and dirt. Since I first got the jeans, they have seen well over 8,000 miles on a motorcycle, over 20 states, Canada, romping around in Baja, and many mornings thrown into a car after getting changed into a wetsuit. 10 months since first putting them on they are now my favorite and most comfortable pair of jeans. The fade, lines and tears have all come from real life breaking in, something you can only get with a quality pair of jeans that are made to last. There is still plenty of life left in them and I know they will just get better looking with age.

Iron & Resin X Vanson Leathers Mojave Jacket

With the Spring riding season now in full swing, we wanted to create a riding jacket that was highly functional while being equally at home on the bike and on the street. Introducing the Mojave Jacket - a collaboration between Iron & Resin and Vanson Leathers. We collaborated with our friends at Vanson to design and build the ultimate 3-season riding jacket. Heirloom quality and built to last, the Mojave jacket is packed full of details:

• 14 oz. Waxed Cotton Canvas

• Deerskin interior collar stand

• Articulated elbows

• Four exterior snap closure pockets

• Iron & Resin herringbone flannel liner

• Rear "game" pocket for all your larger items (gloves, goggles, etc.) • Snap closure wrist cuffs

• Iron & Resin Anchor Piston Flag patch on sleeve

• Buckle collar closure

• Heavy duty 2-way brass center front zipper

Every jacket hand made, one at time in Vanson's own Fall River, Massachusetts factory by skilled artisans. In addition, each jacket is hand embossed with it's own number that identifies each specific jacket built.

If you're looking for a true heirloom quality jacket that will provide you with a lifetime of use and will most likely outlast you, consider the Mojave. These jackets represent a smart investment among today's ever changing, mass produced brands and throw-away products. Each jacket is an expression of pride - by the owners who wear them and by the skilled artisans who build them one at a time.

Mojave Jacket on Selectism

Another great motorcycle jacket hits our radar, this time Vanson, experts in leather, turn their attention to waxed canvas for a joint project with California's Iron & Resin. The Mojave, a play on the Barbour International, combines all the functionality needed from a motorcycle jacket with a cut that makes it perfect for non-bike moments, you know, just hanging around. 14oz cotton canvas, articulated elbows, heavy duty two way brass zipper, a large rear game pocket, herringbone flannel liner, each jacket is handmade and numbered in Massachusetts. The Craddle of Storms Premiere at the Iron & Resin Garage

This past weekend we hosted the premiere of the new Chris Burkard film, The Craddle of Storms. Surfer Magazine, Chris Burkard, Bryce Lowe-White and Ben Weiland all did an amazing job creating this film.

The movie followed surfers like Alex Gray, Josh Mulcoy, and Pete Devries as they journeyed through some of the the most remote destinations, endured the heaviest of weather systems and flew on some of the jankiest of small air crafts known to man. All to document and score some of the most epic cold water waves on the planet. 100% worth it and this new flick is by far one of the more finer of exploration movies out there!

With free beer from the guys over at Saint Archer, the mouth watering Scratch food truck and one hell of a great crowd, the night was full of good vibes and a lot of fun.

We would like to thank everyone that came out and all of the folks that helped make this thing happen!

Introducing the Iron & Resin x Tres Noir McCoy & 101er sunglasses

It was 75° and the sun was out in all its glory. The swimming hole was calling our names. It was only proper that we hopped on our bikes, packed a cooler and set out for an adventure. As if bringing the Ural (the custom side hack turned Baja surf adventure vehicle) wasn't enough, we were accompanied by one hell of a cherried out Lincoln Continental. Along with the pretty babe sitting shotgun, this thing broke necks as it made its way through the streets.

We booked it north on the 101 and set out for our adventure. We made a small pit stop for convenient store essentials but after this we pointed our vehicles towards the mountains and off we went. After countless hairpin turns, riverbed crossings and miles of tunneled trees, we arrived at the base of our hike, tucked away in the local mountains.

With a small trek and skillful navigation across pockets of poison oak, we arrived to a glistening oasis. The swimming hole had more water than we thought, and other than a few kids playing at the base, the place was ours. We cracked open our beer filled pleasure chest, had a cold one and went for a swim!

After countless hours of climbing, jumping, floating and bronzing in the sun it was time to pack up and catch the sunset; we scrammed on back and made it just in time.

It was an epic day to say the least...

PRINT IS NOT DEAD

Is print dead? Not for us! A print piece is so much more tangible and physical. A magazine or good book can stay in someones office or sit on a coffee table for years and years; while an article on the internet can disappear in cyberspace instantaneously.

Citizen Frederick

About:

"The concept of Citizen Frederick started to take shape about 4 years ago. We were living in Washington, DC and were both eager to make a career change and find a place to raise a family.

We stumbled across historic Frederick, MD and its burgeoning design scene and vibrant, historic downtown one cold January day. We immediately knew we wanted to live and work here. The community combined the best aspects of our small hometowns (in the middle of Kansas, and the mountains of Utah) with a cosmopolitan sensibility. We were attracted by the long history of Frederick, founded before the Revolutionary War by German settlers and the site of Civil War battles as well the birthplace of the Star Spangled Banner lyricist Francis Scott Key. We also appreciated the vibrant presence of Frederick. It has world-class restaurants (a couple run by Top Chef Master and Frederick-native Brian Voltaggio) and a revitalized downtown riverwalk all within close proximity to Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD.

The goal of our brand is to embrace the history of Frederick by offering quality, American-made goods to our clients. We provide the essentials to help a man be the best husband, father, friend, and more that he can be.

We both are inspired by what's going on both locally and globally. Our showroom is a manageable 500 square feet and we've turned it into a well-curated showroom that reflects our style. It's rustic but with a minimalistic approach and urban sensibility.

One of our most successful brands has been Iron and Resin. Our customers love the story behind the brand, they appreciate the feel and quality of the fabrics and construction, and they know it's always going to be a solid fit. They know that Iron and Resin is something that will make them look good at the beach or around town.

We invite any Iron and Resin fan to come up to Frederick for a visit, we'd love to show you our little shop and introduce you to our community. In addition, we could show you where to go for a great burger and some killer beer."

Brick & Mortar- A Feature on the Stockists of Iron & Resin.

This month we are featuring Citizen Frederick; an awesome space in Frederick, MD that stocks Iron & Resin and knows how to curate one hell of a retail space. From the history of Frederick, MD to the ideas and goals of the store, these guys really have it down.

The Elusive Jackalope Print

There are few critters as rooted in American folklore as the almighty Jackalope, also known by the scientific name, Lepus temperamentalus. A cross between the American "pigmy deer" and killer rabbit, the Jackalope is said to be able to elude capture by mimicking human voices and using phrases like, "There he goes! That-a-way!". During days of the Old West, when cowboys gathered by the campfires singing at night, Jackalopes could often be heard mimicking their voices. One of the few ways Jackalopes can be caught is to leave out a bottle of whiskey, the Jackalope's sustenance of choice. Jackalopes only breed during winter electrical storms, which help explain their extreme rarity. Wickedly dangerous if approached, one should always be wary when traveling in the back country - especially if carrying whiskey.

Compared to his other North American brethren, the Wampus Cat, Skunk Ape, Fur Trout and the Hoop Snake, the Jackalope is the most feared of all the fearsome critters. That's pretty much why we love 'em. In fact we're so obsessed with this cute but deadly varmint, we decided to hand print them all over our heavyweight 6oz. cotton twill fabric and sew them into our short sleeve button down work shirt, or as a western yolk on our short sleeve chambray work shirt. We even used this fabric to make our five panel camp hat. When you wear one of these Jackalope infused garments, you'll feel especially bad-ass and you may have an unexplainable craving for whisky. Grab yours HERE , or at your favorite Iron & Resin retailer.

Iron & Resin Boardshorts on WeShopAmerican.com

The Iron & Resins boardshorts collection ($72) are informed by the 70's / 80's SoCal garage culture the company's founders grew up in and the shop's pristine oceanside surroundings in Ventura, CA. These classic boardshorts are sized just right: neither too baggy nor too slim-fitting and sitting just above the knee. All designs are composed of a super soft, yet tough fabric (whether 100% polyester or accented by a Nylon Flat Finish Flight Satin) and these should be able to endure even the gnarliest surf and digs into the sand. The line of designs range from classic stripes (Revival Stripes) to Hawaiian (Cooper Aloha) to something with more of a "striking" flourish (Team Bolt). Store Name? Danner at Union Way

Where are you located?

Union Way -- a new indoor shopping experience in Portland, Oregon. It's a covered alley with a number of boutiques that connects the city's iconic Ace Hotel and Powell's Books in downtown Portland. The official address is 1022 W. Burnside Street, Portland, OR 97209.

A little about your store?

Since 1932, Danner has crafted premium boots to the highest quality standards. The brand relocated from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to Portland, Oregon in 1936. Since then, the Pacific Northwest has been the ultimate proving ground for our boots. Danner has developed a loyal customer base over the last 80 years, and we now see a new generation starting to rediscover quality and recognize and appreciate American craftsmanship. Danner at Union Way is a carefully curated store that pays homage to the brand's legendary quality, craftsmanship and roots in the Pacific Northwest. We stock the store with other premium brands that compliment our boots and heritage in the outdoors. Style, comfort, durability and American craftsmanship are all considered when selecting vendors to sell alongside our boots.

What kind of customer do you get?

Danner at Union Way attracts a diverse customer base. The store is located in the heart of downtown Portland and adjacent to Powell's Books, which brings in many domestic and international travelers. In addition, local brand loyalists are excited to shop our Portland-made Stumptown collection, premium work boots and hiking boots. From time to time, we feature Japanese styles, brand collaborations and other limited-edition styles.

What other brands do you carry?

Most brands we carry are made in USA. We also carry other local Oregon brands such as Pendleton, Field Notes, Beckel Canvas, Wood & Faulk and Shwood Sunglasses. Others include Topo Designs, Taylor Stitch, Juniper Ridge, Rising Sun, West America by Woolrich, Case Knives, Zippo, Dickies 1922, New England Shirt Co., Fairends and many more.

Favorite Iron & Resin product you carry?

The Rancho Flannel. It's great to layer under a thicker jacket or over a hoodie, or wear open as a shirt jacket over a tee. In a word -- versatile. For spring/summer we're loving the Coaster Shorts. They're perfect for warm days on the mountain, at the coast or at a backyard BBQ.

Any exciting news?

We just got our spring/summer 2014 styles in the store, including the new Mt. Tabor series -- Portland-made oxford shoes, straight out of the Danner factory: Mt. Tabor Series

Events happening?

Danner at Union Way is pretty good at throwing a party. We've had a few great bands play in the store: Denver, Houndstooth, The Lonesome Billies, Vetiver and Jamestown Revival. We've also sponsored local events such as The 1 Moto Show -- an annual custom motorcycle show that highlights built, preserved and restored motorcycles. A few upcoming events include:

June 5 - Union Way Block Party: All the stores in our little neighborhood including Steven Alan, Self Edge, Will Leather Goods, Marine Layer and others are having a big party with food, drinks and music.

Aug 1-3 -- Pickathon: We're sponsoring an indie roots music festival called Pickathon that takes place every summer on Pendarvis Farm, just outside of Portland. This year's lineup includes Nickel Creek, X, Blind Pilot, War Paint, War on Drugs and more. Should be a good time!

Artisan Summer Collection - Iron & Resin x Denton Watts

1. Where are you from and where do you live now?

I was born and raised in Austin. Don't ever plan on leaving. Partly because my family is here and partly because I love it here.

2. What was your childhood like?

Perfect in every way. The best, most supportive parents ever.

3. What inspired you to begin creating art?

I would draw every once and a while when I was younger, but it wasn't really a "thing" up until I decided I wanted to tattoo; I was about 18 then. When I decided that I wanted to tattoo I turned into a total recluse. All I did was draw and paint tattoo designs. I knew it was possible to make a living off of it if I hit it hard, so thats exactly what I did. The whole tattoo thing didn't work out, but once that fell through I thought I could make it on my own.

4. Who/what inspires you on a daily basis?

I look at inspiration rarely these days and don't really have "reference". Waking up with a big cup of coffee, music blasting, and a blank page is plenty inspiration for me. That said, my work is HEAVILY inspired by traditional american tattooing. I just take it my own route. I'm sure all the stuff I see over Instagram makes an impression on me. Everyday life is pretty god damn inspiring. Turn both "bad" and "good" situations into inspiration and fuel for work. Used to keep it pretty safe with your general tattoo imagery but now I'm starting to say things (at least a little) and it's a lot of fun.

5. What are you most proud of?

The fact that I'm making a living (albeit a modest one) off of my work. All the time I spent drawing in college instead of partying or whatever.

6. Why block printing?

I'm a huge fan of metal, especially doom metal and black metal (though less black metal these days). Doom and black metal bands use a lot of woodcuts for their CD covers and shirts, and that's honestly the main reason. It's referencing that. That said, there are so many reasons why I think block printing works well with my imagery. It forces me to stay simple, there'll always be errors (which makes it folksy), it's handmade and hand-printed, it's something to sell, etc. I make my designs on the computer which often results in something a little too perfect. I get to satisfy the perfectionist within myself when I design on the computer, but if I make a "mistake" when I'm cutting linoleum I genuinely think it helps the overall aesthetic.

7. Top 5 songs on rotation in your playlist right now.

I don't do songs. I do albums.

1. Brian Jonestown Massacre - Thank God for Mental Illness 2. Dead Can Dance - The Serpent's Egg 3. Church of Misery - Houses of the Unholy 4. Moss - Sub Templum 5. Earthless - From the Ages

I could go on and on. If I don't have good music to listen to I can't stand to be inside working.

8. What's in your garage?

2000 Sportster XL 1200 - My daily commuter. Got some plans for it. 1975 Sportster XLCH 1000 w/ 1980 motor (XLH). This has become a project though I didn't buy it expecting it to be. I've learned a ton working on this thing and once I sort out these intake and exhaust leaks it'll be good to go. It's close, but I've been saying that for a while now. ;)

9. What's next for Denton Watts?

I'll be experimenting with some other media soon for sure, but the imagery will remain much the same. Slowly easing my way into type... Just crossing my fingers things continue to grow.

Denton Watts must be like 150 years old. That was my first thought when I came across this Austin born artist's work. How else could someone have such a curious view of the world, as presented through his artwork? He's actually a pretty young guy, but his soul has definitely been around the block a few times. His lino cuts are full of simple, strong images that tie in folklore, religious icons, mysticism and tradition. All presented in a style reminiscent of tattoo flash art. Each piece feels like there should be some folk tale, or novel even, behind it. And maybe there is. However, those are things best left to the imagination.

We're excited to present this new Summer Featured Artist Collection from Denton Watts and Iron & Resin. Check out the Q&A below and a few images from hand printing the Flash Poster.

A Trip to Yosemite

A couple weeks ago our good friend and fellow Iron & Resin life advocate, Tommy Tatham took an epic trip to Yosemite. Tommy is one of the nicest, coolest, dapper looking dudes around. You can usually find him around town cruising on his 1970 BSA Thunderbolt or posted up early mornings at Danny's Deli. He is always up for an adventure and this trip to Yosemite was nothing but that.

25 miles in 3 days, countless awe-inspiring views, chiseled granite rock formations, pristine forest, frigid waterfalls and giant Sequoias...this truly is natures temple.

"Yosemite Valley, to me, is always a sunrise, a glitter of green and golden wonder in a vast edifice of stone and space."

Del's Barbering & Styling

Photos & Story by Michael Krantz

Just a little down the road from playful waves and the 1/5 mile high banked clay oval track that lives at Seaside Park, there is a man named Del. Del cuts hair and has been doing so for 60 years. Sitting between a motorcycle clubhouse and a mini mart is Del's Barber & Styling.

Del has given thousands of haircuts in his 60 years as a barber and has cut all types of hair. To me, that experience and knowledge triumphs all.

Now don't get me wrong, I am not a snob when it comes to getting my hair cut. I've had the super trendy cuts where you get washed 3 times to the beat of industrial techno and I have also had my fair share of Supercuts specials (a quick lopsided buzz cut and a rash) but no experience has ever compared to the time I spent in the vintage Belmont chair at Del's Barber & Styling. The guy is a master of the classic gentleman's cut and has some of the most interesting stories I have ever heard.

Right when you walk in you're hit with the scent of barbicide and pomade. The place possesses a nostalgic quality right out of the 1970's. Littered with fixtures made of wood Formica and framed glamour shot portraits, Del's Barber & Styling is truly a relic.

Cutting hair is an art to Del; you can see it in his eyes when he's meticulously combing and cutting. With years of experience and handling hundreds of hair types, it is apparent that Del is a seasoned veteran.

With all the hype and new product surrounding the men's grooming industry, it is important that we respect and pay homage to those who came before. Del is a classic example of one the many badass barbers who paved the way for today's contemporary follicle styling industry.

Del's is more than just a blue and red pole; this is not only a place you go to get groomed but also somewhere you can turn a bad day into a good day

Born Free 2014

Another great year at the Born Free show. This year was the first year it would be held over the weekend instead of just one day and it turned out great. Hard to go look at each and every amazing bike there was, but having two days helped. Great weekend and always stoked to see familiar faces and meet new awesome people.

Product Feature- The Cafe Glove

It has been said that when a person comes off a motorcycle, the first part of their body to hit the ground is the knee, followed by the hands. I can tell you that from years of asphalt falls from skating, it is a natural defense to throw your hands to the ground when you feel that tipping point. However there is a huge difference when ditching a piece of wood with wheels and letting a bike down. On a bike, you're going 60mph+ and being thrown from a 300lb+ machine built of metal.

Well I don't know about you but I am quite attached to my fingers and hands. So to ensure the safety of your hands we are featuring our most popular glove, The Cafe.

A heavy duty grain deer skin glove. These things are beyond soft and have a superior build quality. Features like the double palm and keystone thumb makes these gloves beyond strong. Stay safe, look stylish and grab a pair HERE

Music Mondays - Guest Playlist by Scott Toepfer

If you haven't heard of the guy you have most likely been living under a rock for the past few years. Scott is a great friend of ours and has been shooting pictures for InR since the beginning. He is incredibly talented and one of the most awesome dudes around. He loves motorcycles and Johnny's breakfast burritos, so its quite common that you may seem him around town doing one or the other.

Dirt Quake USA

When we got word from the Sideburn magazine team that Dirt Quake was making its debut in the USA, we knew it would be an event not to miss. Made the plans to ride up a few weeks prior to the event and was preparing to load up my old police cruiser to make the journey up there, race, and hopefully make it back.

Well, all those plans fell through after some motorcycle mishaps. That involves a whole different journey and a story for another time. Regardless of the motorcycle mishap, we made it to the races and what a show it was.

The evening before Dirt Quake was filled with the professionals racing and showing how it was really done. It is pretty amazing what these guys could do, and the light they did it in was just perfect. Following the pros was a night of camping, music and motorcycle shenanigans. The partying went late into the night, and people were making their own little tracks in the pit but no one seemed to care.

Race day arrived with a lot more people showing up to see this spectacle. It was a very diverse group, as there were classes for street trackers, choppers, inappropriate street bikes and a female class. Bikes ranged from electric motorcycles, to mini bikes with sidecars, a pizza bike, raked out choppers and snowmobiles. Each category was a blast to watch and they all got multiple chances at glory. Not as many spills as I expected to see and the competition was stiff all the way to the finals.

It was all smiles at the end of the day, some people taking home trophies but everyone bringing home memories. An event to remember and looking forward to where this will go in the future.

PINETIMES

Photos by Dylan Gordon & Samson Hatae

This Last Wednesday a few of us took off after work, booked it out of Ventura and embarked on a small overnighter in the local mountains.

For some of us, most of our time is spent sitting behind a computer firing off emails that are impersonal and lost in text. We are often victims of routine, and with that being said...monotony will kill you. Its small trips like this, where we truly loose ourselves and have a chance to put aside our vocational obligations and personal problems.

With pristine views, fresh air, good people and the feeling of being on your bike with the wind rushing through you as if you were almost transparent, it is safe to say that this is truly what it means to live.

Whether its on a motorcycle, car, or by foot, adventure is out there. We encourage you to get get lost, step outside your comfort zone and live!

Music Mondays - Ugly Casanova

Today we bring you the amazing sound of Ugly Casanova and their album, Sharpen Your Teeth.

Piercing vocals, acoustic ballads, and hints of country are what make Ugly Casanova truly unique. No song goes unnoticed and they all stand out for the better, worse, or simply just because you just haven't heard anything like it.

Many rumors surround the band on how they came to be but few have proven to ever be true. With only one album, a few live shows and a surf movie soundtrack, Ugly Casanova came just as quick as they went.

Store Name? Seed Peoples Market

A litte about your store?

Well The Camp originated 10 years ago to become one of the first "Green" retail centers in California. The center has multiple Eco-friendly features including reservoirs under the parking lot that irrigate the drought resistant landscape, reclaimed and certified building materials to a 2,000 sqft roof garden for natural insulation and more greenery. All of this was the building block for Seed Peoples Market which opened up 4 and half years ago. We wanted a store where you could get lost in and find items that had more intrinsic value then say a large corporation. Whether that be from local artist providing hand made goods that were made down the street to outdoor goods from companies that take full responsibility for their impact on the environment.

What kind of customer do you get?

We get a wide variety of guest. Most are locals just enjoying the Camp grounds and stopping in to see whats new. Also a lot of customers gearing up for trips.

What other brands do you carry?

We look for anything that excites us. We have such a diverse group of individuals at Seed that if a few of us are excited about it chances are so will our guests. The Coastal Collection

The Coastal Collection -- A collaborative effort between the four like minded brands and boutiques Iron & Resin, Aloha Sunday, Oakland Surf Club and Port that all share a few common interests. The collection was forged from sharing the similar passions in clothing and culture along with their combined affinity and appreciation for the California Coastline. Each entity was responsible for choosing the icon they saw fit for their localized coastline and then the combined elements were created into a singular graphic print to be shared on a few garments and accessories. The capsule consists of a traditional Hawaiian style button up with combined print graphic,18"matching boardshort, 4 singular printed graphic tees, a custom knit 100% wool blanket along with a bucket hat and exclusive cap with leather detail from Ampal Creative. To add to this, the assortment is entirely manufactured by local vendors along the California coast.

Aloha Sunday of San Diego

We surf Blacks beach pretty much every morning before opening up the shop. On sunny days the north end of the beach will be littered with 100 creepy dudes bronzing in the nude. At first it was weird to see a group of disrobed middle aged men playing naked volleyball... but now we just write it off as a part of the scenery.

Iron & Resin of Ventura

One of the landmarks of Ventura's rich landscape is Anacapa Island's Arch Rock. Lying just off the Ventura coast, this 40-ft. natural rock-arch is the gateway to the northern Channel Islands and a permanent fixture in our psyche as surfers and watermen, and those who frequent this ocean playground.

Port of Long Beach

We have chosen the Long Beach oil Islands as our focal point the print. Also known as Astronaut Islands these dressed up oil rigs pay homage to how the City of Long Beach was founded with ingenuity, hard work and commerce. Mixed emotions have surround these structures since they were built in 1965.

Brick & Mortar- Channels - A Featured Stockist of Iron & Resin

Store name? Channels

507 1/2 King Street Charleston SC 29403

A litte about your store?

Channels is a collaboration between myself (Russell Robinson) and Angelo Vlcek. We've been involved in the industry for a while and felt that together we could fill a much need niche in the downtown Charleston area. We're a lifestyle boutique focusing on the fashion side of the industry and pay attention to every detail when it comes to displaying product in our shop. We both own stores in Mt. Pleasant, Drift and Parrot Surf and Skate and Channels is a combo of both stores. The name Channels came from an old map of Charleston harbor that I was given as a wedding present. The map showed all the different Channels that dump into the harbor and being a coastal town we felt Channels was a perfect fit.

What kind of customer do you get?

Charleston is a college town as well as a town whose tourist industry is booming right now, we cater to both the college kids, tourists and locals alike.

What other brands do you carry?

We carry Roark, Volcom, RVCA, Wellen, Herschel, Brixton, Citrine Swim, Captain Fin Co., Tiare Hawaii, Billabong, Freedom Artists and TOR Jewelry to name a few.

Anything else you would like to add?

Moving forward we hope to have a solid online presence and have monthly events at the shop, whether it be art shows, trunk shows or all of the above. We just want to help expose some local artists all while having a good time.

Utah Bound

Photos and words by Tommy Tatham

We've always had an affinity for traveling to and experiencing new places, so the invite to the Outdoor Retailer trade show in Utah and be apart of their new "Venture Out" section was repaid with a unanimous "yes". We squeezed all of our gear, Ural and sidecar, and three of our iron stallions into a trailer and set off for the Beehive State. After a fourteen hour drive which ended at around three a.m. in Salt Lake, we tried to get a little shut eye before setup day.

Exhausted and sore, we got the booth setup and decided to go explore SLC. The recent thunderstorms and intermittent rain left everything lush and green, which was a welcome change from the drought conditions back home, and made the ride into the show every day a pleasant one. Over the next five days we met, hung with and traded stories with dozens of delightful and engaging people, which definitely affirmed our decision to take part in this new section of OR. We were humbled by the graciousness of those who loved what we do. Each day after the show ended, we saddled up and took to the hills armed with patchy directions from our new local friends to many of the surrounding back roads and canyons. Our drive to experience as much as we could while we were there led us to some of the most picturesque mountain ranges and hill tops Utah had to offer, and we were amazed at the endless open spaces and landscapes we were able to ride through. Before we knew it and after a few tanks of gas and a couple of breakdowns, our time in Salt Lake come to an end.

Packed up and tired from five days of the trade show and after-hours adventures, we decided to head South and experience more of the renowned Utah mountains and backwoods. The road led us to one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the West, which is where we decided to settle down for the night. After we setup our tents and readied a fire, we wanted to hop back on our bikes and investigate the surrounding wilderness. With the higher altitudes causing the occasional backfire, we rode down every dirt road and up every hill we came across. We were once again amazed at the scale and sheer beauty which Utah is known for, and were left with memories that will certainly last a lifetime.

We'd like to thank everyone who came by and visited us, those who invited us out, and to everyone else who helped us enjoy your beautiful state.

Until next time Utah.

2 Year Anniversary Party

Hard to believe it's been two years since we opened our doors. We wouldn't be here without the support of our community, friends and neighbors. So, a special thanks to you all!

We would also like to thank everyone who made it out to the party; The Ark Life, The Quiet Life, Saint Archer, Lion Booth, Scratch Food Truck and everyone else who helped make it happen.

Tintypes & Bikes

A couple of weeks ago, a few of us paid a visit to our friends over at The Shop, the legendary Indian and American motorcycle shop known for its treasure trove of antique American motorcycles and parts. We had the opportunity to photograph almost a dozen of their old iron horses with the help of our good friend Lisa Dodge and her 1860's tintype camera, so we jumped at the chance to capture the essence of these timeless machines on such a unique medium. The day was warm and overcast, which proved to be ideal by offering soft light and enough humidity to prevent the plates from drying out in between exposures. One by one, we wheeled out motorcycles ranging from Thor, Excelsior, Indian, Harley Davidson and Pope, and set them into position. While we pushed and pondered these old relics, Lisa meticulously coated each plate and focused her camera. After each capture, we anxiously watched each plate get rinsed, fixed and covered, while admiring the finished plates suspended in fresh water. Lisa's adherence to the ways and methods of the 1860's is what truly sets her apart and makes her work so authentic, and her dedication to her craft is nothing short of remarkable. After a full day of shooting and over a dozen tintypes to show for it, we were grateful for the experience.

We would like to thank Lisa Dodge (@reallisadoge) for all of her help and Dave "Huggy Bear" Hansen for allowing us to handle and shoot from his historic collection.

Cold Stoke Premiere

Photos by: Michael Krantz

Last week our good friend and awesomely talented photographer Dylan Gordon had a premiere for his video and zine release, Cold Stoke. The content was from a trip up to the Pacific North West with a handful of great people destined to explore the rugged coastline.

Hooligan Hoedown!

"I would rather wake up in the middle of nowhere than in any city on earth."

- Steve McQueen

There aren't many things better than the Fall riding season in California. Pair that with good friends, good music, and sleeping under the stars and you've pretty much found paradise. On October 25-26, Iron & Resin will be hosting the third annual group ride & campout - The Hooligan Hoedown. Ride in and meet us there or join us for a group ride from The Garage (324 E. Main St.Ventura, CA 93001) on 10/25 at 12:00pm to Camp Sheideck, a remote outpost pretty much in the middle of nowhere. We'll be announcing meet up spots for other riders around California in the coming weeks.

Group camping facilities are provided and we encourage all who are there to spend the night. In addition to the group site, there are more private sites available along the river. An all you can eat tri-tip & chicken barbecue will get things heated up as the bands start to take to the stage. This will be a night to remember with plenty of stories to share with those willing to make the trek over the mountain. We'll be jamming to the tunes of Moonsville Collective and The Far West all night long. We'll also have plenty of gear to give away from Iron & Resin and the other brands that we feature in The Garage. So get your bike ready, grab your girl (or guy) and dust off your sleeping bag and head into the hills for a weekend to remember. (Special note: ALL are welcome to this event - whether on four wheels or two).

$30 per person (if registered by October 21st) - includes camping, music and all you can eat barbecue dinner. $35 per person for late registration (after Oct. 21st)

The first 75 early bird RSVPs will receive a free event T-shirt!

Tickets include Live music from Moonsville Collective and The Far West • BBQ • Camping

A Ride to the Iron & Air Issue 16 Launch

Last week a handful of us booked it down to LA for the Iron & Air Magazine launch for issue #16. As always, the guys at Iron & Air put together another beautifully bound piece of literal and visual art.

Not only does issue 16 triumph in content but it also features some of Iron & Resin's very own, Scott Toepfer and Cierra Cegielski.

Scott's story follows his travels and attempt to throw down at the flats during Speed Week. While Cierra is featured in an article about a female biker duo who mob around the West chasing sunsets and call themselves...The Lady Tramps.

GET ISSUE #16 HERE!

Here are a few picks from the ride down there and some frame grabs from the magazine. You really can't read the text so you should definitely go get one!

Brick & Mortar- Craftsmanship - A Featured Stockist of Iron & Resin

Store Name? Craftsmanship

A little about your store? Simply put, Craftsmanship sells American made products for men that are sold in small batches from small companies with big ideas.

That being said, what we carry in our store is very important to us. We carry brands that we have already experienced and adore. We offer brands that have story-telling properties to them. Most of all we have brands that will connect with our customers and our own brand to create impact points that last a lifetime. We support small USA companies that are attempting something big.

What kind of customer do you get? Our customer is the discerning man who appreciates made in America products that hold a higher level of accountability to quality.

What other brands do you carry? We carry Topo Designs, Faribault Mills, Ernest Supplies, Ursa Major, Billykirk, Owen & Fred, Goodlife, Sterlingwear of Boston, General Knot, American Trench, Arcane Supply Co., Velva Sheen, Slinky, Trixie & Milo, and of course, Iron and Resin.

Favorite Iron & Resin product you carry? My favorite product is the Steve Mcqueen mugged t-shirt but by far and away the most popular item we have are the hooded sweatshirt pullovers.

Any exciting news? We just had our Grand Opening which was a Bacon and Bourbon tasting!

Anything else you would like to add? We felt passionate about opening up a brick and mortar store so people could experience these amazing brands in person. Online sales are a vital part of commerce but there is something traditional and experiential about walking in a shop, browsing, and engaging in these brand journeys...and making them your own.

Iron & Resin Announces Bruce Brown Collaboration

Ventura, CA. October 15, 2014 - California lifestyle brand, Iron & Resin, is pleased to announce it is partnering with legendary filmmaker, Bruce Brown, to create a limited collection of apparel and accessories inspired by Brown's seminal films documenting the golden age of surfing and motorcycles from the '50s through the early '70s. The collection will include an assortment of all over printed button up wovens, custom knits, board shorts, headwear and graphic tees, featuring imagery and graphics from the films. Due to release in April of next year for Summer 2015, the collection will be available for preview and ordering immediately.

Largely regarded as one of the early pioneers of surf film, Bruce Brown created the films Slippery When Wet, Surf Crazy, Surfing Hollow Days and The Endless Summer, among others. Brown also teamed up with Steve McQueen to produce arguably the best motorcycle documentary of all time, On Any Sunday, in 1971.

"These are the films that influenced my early surfing life and inspired me to get my first motorcycle as a kid, and have had a large impact on the path that I'm still on today", says Iron & Resin cofounder, Thom Hill. "Now to be partnering with Bruce Brown Films and helping to inspire an entire new generation with his work is a dream come true. For a brand like Iron & Resin that is largely influenced by surfing, motorcycles and California culture of the '50s, '60s, and '70s, we couldn't be more excited to be working with Bruce and sharing something truly special, inspired by his films."

From Montana to Big Sur

As Jack Kerouac once said, "live, travel, adventure, bless and don't be sorry".

Its not easy to drop what you are doing, put your vocational responsibilities aside and take off with little to no plan. Life experiences define our character and the sheer idea of monotony will kill you. Its always a good idea to infuse freshness even in the most mundane daily routines. Don't fear the road less traveled and always push to explore the unknown.

There is no better example than two awesome dudes who adhere to nothing but this way of life. Every time I run into either Dylan Gordon or JR Watson, it seems like they just got back from somewhere epic.

A couple weeks ago the boys took a trip North to do some skating, sight seeing and just embrace whatever life threw at them. From Oregon to Montana then Seattle and back down the California coast, these guys covered a lot ground. They met up with the girls in Big Sur and after a few cups of whiskey, shooting BB guns, and a skillet breakfast, they headed back to Ventura.

It was a break from reality and an off the grid experience that made coming back to the day to day routine more tolerable.

Brick & Mortar- Moto Moda - A Featured Stockist of Iron & Resin

Store Name?

Moto Moda, which translates to motor fashion. We chose the name because its comprehensive of everything we're doing - motos plus moto-inspired fashion. And it just has a good cadence and symmetry when you say it and see it.

A little about your store (history, story about how you started and store name, etc.?)

I've been buying and selling vintage bikes for years, and Moto Moda emerged as an idea to become a motorcycle lifestyle shop and a vehicle for continuing to sell bikes on a bigger scale. So we started the shop out of a 1972 Airstream Argosy trailer, building the brand as we set up shop around Nashville and the mid South, typically staging it with my latest vintage bike find. We gained enough momentum that we decided to open a brick and mortar shop, which just launched at the end of October. We're excited to be taking the brand to the next level and kind of humbled by the great response we're getting - especially from other brands that we've been fans of for a long time , like INR, and from the motorcycle community more generally.

What kind of customer do you get?

We get motorcycle riders, the moto-curious, shoppers who just like our aesthetic, and Music City tourists.

What other brands do you carry?

Woorich footwear, Vanson leathers, Brixton, Arizaga Men's jewelry, Stance socks, Fossil and Hide jewelry, leather goods by Warfield Supply and Leather Feather Stone, Denim and Spirits, Biltwell, Cycle Zombies, Iron and Air and Sideburn magazines, and vintage curated by outlaw country rising star (and badass motorcycle rider) Nikki Lane

Favorite Iron & Resin product you carry?

This fall we're really digging the black Tactical shirt - such a great well-made basic that can be worn as a shirt or layered as a jacket. The Soledad sweatshirt is also a great staple - super soft and, again, just really well-made.

Any exciting news?

We've got some irons in the fire - our website and on-line shop is re-launching with more product. We're expanding our Moto Moda line and getting ready for wholesale distribution this Spring.

Anything else you would like to add?

Yeah, get out and ride! And if you're passing through Nashville, be sure to make a pit stop with us. One of the best things about running the shop has been all the great people coming through.

Spring 2015 Available Now!

"An afternoon drive from Los Angeles will take you up into the high mountains, where eagles circle above the forests and the cold blue lakes, or out over the Mojave Desert, Yosemite, and Sequoia Forest with its giant trees, which were growing long before the Parthenon was built; they are the oldest living things in the world. One should visit such places often, and be conscious, in the midst of the city, of their surrounding presence. For this is the real nature of California and the secret of its fascination; this untamed, undomesticated, aloof, prehistoric landscape which relentlessly reminds the traveller of his human condition and the circumstances of his tenure upon the earth."

― Christopher Isherwood, Exhumations

Joshua Tree, in the heart of the Mohave, is truly a spectacle to behold. Packing a few essentials, we left our home and made a hasty retreat across the inland sprawl of Southern California and into another world seeking refuge and adventure. Rugged mountains of twisted rock and exposed granite monoliths testify to the tremendous earth forces that shaped and formed this land. Joshua trees standing sentinel, with upstretched arms resolute against the unrelenting sun. Here the golden hour seemed to last forever and we scrambled over boulders, hiked endless rivers of sand, and rode our desert sleds into electrifying sunsets. Nights were spent under a full moon, huddled in the welcome chill around a fire, sharing whiskey and a meal among good friends. And like the desert creatures that make this place their home, we too found refuge under the desert sky.

Our Spring 2015 collection is inspired by our adventures in the Mojave Desert. Yucca, buckwheat, allysum, and juniper along with the arroyos, granite and desert varnish form an impressionistic landscape of color against a brilliant sky. For our Spring line, you'll find rich, desert washed hues, bands of color, heavy washes and custom wovens that tell our story through color and texture and silhouettes with a style nod to our western heritage. Goods designed for rambling and wandering in a world where refuge is available for those willing to discover it.

Salt Lake City Utah

Nearly giddy and shell-shocked from the unexpected events that unfolded, we laughed and recounted various spectacles from the night and knew that we all had experienced something special. We carried that momentum with us for the rest of our time in SLC, and know that it will always be a place that after we leave we can't wait to come back to.

I'd like to extend a huge thanks to Salt City Builds for the good times and welcoming vibes, to Cafe Mugshot for keeping our camp mugs full and caffein levels high, to The Rest for bringing us in and treating us right, and to everyone else who opened their doors, extended us invites, and showed us a good time around town.

See you again in August!

Chris, Thom, Jackson and Tommy T

by Tommy Tatham

Answering the call to return to a place you've grown fond of, is sort of like visiting an old friend you haven't seen for what feels like forever. It was with that excitement we put home in the rear-view and headed back to Utah.

After a two day drive of taking the long way by whatever backroads the map had to offer, we landed in town and got some rest in preparation for the following day's setup. We were once again participating in the Venture Out section of the Outdoor Retailer tradeshow, and also there to setup our collaborative "Outpost Shop" in Salt Lake's The Stockist. After a full day of setup and merchandizing, we accepted an invite from our friends from Salt City Builds to meet them for some "good times" and food cooked over an open fire out near the Salt Lake. How could refuse right? So we headed toward the setting sun. After almost being run off the road by a twin-trailer salt hauler, and taking nearly a dozen unmarked dirt roads, we pulled up to a small secluded spot at the base of some foothills. What happened during the next few hours simply can't be expressed through a few words, so I hope my photos can at least give you a glimpse into what we experienced.

The Garvey Tee

Good things never go out of style. This season we continued with our classic 1940's inspired baseball tee, the Garvey. Same shirt, same awesome fit, new colors. Made of 100% Cotton Jersey, cover stitched raglan seams and a custom Iron & Resin embroidered Anchor Piston logo. Proudly made in the USA!

Not only is the Garvey Tee great for casual wearing and just about anything else, but it makes for a great tee for surf missions in the Ural.

Iron & Resin Artisan Collection - Jon Van Hamersveld

SHOP

SHOP

John Van Hamersveld is an icon in Southern California culture, or more aptly described as a creator of icons. While not everyone may know his name, almost everyone will recognize his pop-art style and most likely something he has created. In a career spanning over fifty years, he can be credited with many graphics and images that identify with the West Coast, including The Endless Summer and many of the most famous album covers of the '70s, including Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Cream and Jefferson Airplane, just to name a few. He's arguably one of the most relevant pop-artists to come out of California, helping pave the way for many of today's pop and street artists with his minimalist drawing style and his use of vibrant, bold color.

We've long been fans of John's work, from his humble beginnings at Surfer Magazine through his long career as art director at Capital Records, and work with brands like Jimmy Z and Gotcha in the '80s. His roots run deep in the culture that makes up the California we know today. So it's a dream come true to be collaborating with such an iconic and influential artists and one that has been such an inspiration to us over the years. It's with great pride we welcome John Van Hamersveld to our Iron & Resin Artisan's Collection

Taco Tuesdays in the Tehachapi

Although there are only a handful of noteworthy taquerias in Ventura, it is my personal opinion that no places match the few hole in the wall resteraunts that inhabit the long stretch they call the "Avenue". From classic al pastor street tacos to tacos de pescado, it is safe to say we are in good hands when it comes to the business of stuffing meat on flat bread.

For most, figuring out where to eat with your coworkers is a daunting task. Here at Iron & Resin it is really easy, there is only one correct answer...tacos.

On this particular Tuesday we decided to skate to one of our regular spots, Lalo's. It was a proper session with a few ollies, tacos al pastor, a cold Coke in a bottle, and the Tehachapi button down

Bruce Brown + Iron & Resin Summer 2015 from Iron & Resin on Vimeo.

Regarded as one of the early pioneers of surf film, legendary filmaker Bruce Brown created iconic films like Slippery When Wet, Surf Crazy, Surfing Hollow Days and The Endless Summer. Bruce was the founding father of documenting the early days of motorcycle and surf culture and also teamed up with Steve McQueen to produce arguably the best motorcycle documentary of all time, On Any Sunday.

His films documented the golden age of surfing and motorcycles from the '50s through the early '70s. His work has influenced surfing culture for decades and inspired generations of kids to get their first motorcycles. We are truly honored to be partnering with Bruce Brown Films and helping to inspire an entire new generation with his work. Iron & Resin is largely influenced by surfing, motorcycles and California culture of the early days and there is no better fit for a collaboration that better speaks to our lifestyle than the Bruce Brown Films.

The Bruce Brown Films + Iron & Resin Summer 2015 collection gives a nod to the timeless and classic style that has become synonimous with the moments captured and narrated by the guru storyteller himself. Classic stripe board shorts, aloha style shirts, and graphic tees taken from original movie stills, make up the this timeless assortment.
